John Bowen Day Oncology Unit

The highly experienced specialist staff at Stawell Regional Health’s John Bowen Day Oncology Unit supports patients, their families and carers through the challenging times of cancer diagnoses and chemotherapy treatment.

The Unit operates every Wednesday, with an oncologist in attendance on the second Wednesday of each month. We administer chemotherapy for all cancer types that can be appropriately treated in a day unit environment. If a patient requires further monitoring, they are cared for in our Simpson Wing. Other forms of treatment offered include venesections for hematological disorders, and post chemotherapy care of intravenous access devices (infusaports).

Our oncology nursing team takes great care to assess the patient’s condition throughout the treatment and offer specific measures to treat symptoms resulting from the treatment. They also assess and organise appropriate referrals to medical, allied health, social and nursing services where appropriate.
