Since the hospital’s inception in gold rush days, Stawell Regional Health has relied strongly on community fundraising to grow and develop our state-of-the-art facilities to what they are today. We are extremely fortunate to have a local community that highly values our institution, its myriad of services and the excellence of care carried out by our team.
Stawell Regional Health Foundation
Established in 1989, the Stawell District Hospital Foundation operates under a Trust Deed and meets quarterly to consider applications from the Hospital for the allocation of funds for the replacement or purchase of new equipment. Requests to the Foundation are usually if there are no other Government funded opportunities available. The Foundation appreciates the generous donations it receives either directly, or through bequests from individuals within the Stawell and greater community. In June 2010 the Foundation made a major donation of $138,000 to the Hospital to purchase an Ultrasound Machine for the Radiology (X-Ray) Department.
Ladies Auxiliary
The Ladies Auxiliary has been tirelessly fundraising for equipment to benefit our hospital for more than 80 years through popular community events like luncheons, dinners and garden parties. The Auxiliary recently raised funds for the establishment of a $10,000 Sensory Garden for the Macpherson Smith Nursing Home. If you are a retired person looking to dedicate a small slice of your time occasionally to voluntary work, the Ladies Auxiliary would love to hear from you.
Y-Zetts
For more than 35 years the Stawell Y-Zetts (a name derived from ‘the younger set’) has been raising funds for the Hospital and Nursing Home through fun, social events. Its signature annual fundraising event, the Stawell Shopping Spree, is held each November and attracts more than 200 shoppers and supported by numerous businesses. This event injects around $180,000 into the local economy and just one night can raise around $4,000 towards improving the quality of health care service and medical equipment. The Y-Zetts also raises funds through activities such as event catering. Joining the Y-Zetts is a great option for those who’d like to balance their busy life with some volunteer work, with our committee focusing on fuss free meetings and key events that deliver big results
Fishers IGA Hospital Golf Day
A prestigious event attended by PGA members and local golfers alike, the Fishers IGA Hospital Golf Day is a major annual fundraiser for the Hospital. Held at the Stawell Golf Club each Spring, the 18-hole event attracts around 140 players and is a big draw-card for corporate teams vying for the Corporate Cup. Funds raised in recent years have assisted in establishing the Stawell Men’s Shed.
Stawell Medical Centre Murray to Moyne Sprockets
For more than 20 years, a group of local cycling enthusiasts have taken part in the annual Murray to Moyne fundraiser as the Stawell Medical Centre ‘Murray to Moyne Sprockets’. Held in March each year, the 24-hour, 520km team cycle relay event raises funds for various health organizations in Western Victoria. In the past, the Sprockets have been successful in raising significant funds towards much needed hospital equipment such as a new fetal monitor for the birthing suite.
