Accident & Emergency Department

Stawell Regional Health has an Accident and Emergency (A & E) Department, which is an ‘Urgent Care Centre’ attended 24-hours-a-day by our nursing staff. The Department is not independently staffed and our nursing staff also manage the inpatients within the Hospital.

The general public who present themselves to the Urgent Care Centre will be assessed by nursing staff which can contact the doctor on call for advice on treatment, or request the doctor on call to attend to the patient.

As the Hospital does not employ General Practitioners at the Urgent Care Centre, the doctor on call will invoice the patient direct for any consulting services provided at the Hospital. For this reason, members of the public are encouraged to attend the Hospital only in an emergency.

If medical attention is required for a general condition, patients are encouraged to contact their GP during business hours. If you are concerned about a health issue outside of your local medical clinic’s hours, please contact the West Vic After Hours Health Advice on 1800 641 395 between 6pm and 8.30am. This free phone service is operated by a highly trained nurse who can decide if you need medical advice, need to speak to a local doctor, make an appointment for the following day, attend the hospital for immediate assessment, or call an ambulance.
